Texas woman decks the halls vintage

AUSTIN, Texas — The holidays at Jennifer Perkins' Austin home include vintage ornaments and lots of trees. She has at least 50 trees in all shapes and sizes, and each with its own Christmas story attached.

"Every year I kind of do a tree in memory of my mom and all the ornaments that she used to have. The kind of more classic, really old Christmas ornaments are hers," said Perkins.

Her mother went all out for Christmas every year and Perkins is carrying on that tradition. She's a well-known designer and arts and crafts expert. Each year her decor is different, with a method to the madness.

"I try to rotate where the trees go and maybe the themes and color of each room. There's usually a room where there's all Santa all the time," said Perkins.

She owns one Santa figure that dates back to the 1930s or 1940s.

"Maybe he was in some department store. That's how he started his life," said Perkins.

Most of her decor is older, like vintage trees and tree toppers, figures and figurines. Perkins collects it all year long in time to display it at Christmas.

"It's really fun that I can go super overkill with this collection once a year and then kind of put it away," said Perkins.
