University of Cincinnati's Bearcat Statue to be in storage until 2025

Aug 07, 2023

You better get a selfie with the University of Cincinnati's iconic Bearcat Statue before it's too late. It will soon go into hibernation for two years.

Due to construction for a new indoor football practice facility and an athletic performance center, the statue, located outside Fifth Third Arena's southeast corner, will go into storage until the summer of 2025 starting May 1, according to the university's website. The popular landmark will remain at its current location through the spring 2023 graduation ceremonies set to take place April 27-29.

Once construction is completed in 2025, the Bearcat Statue will go back up in a new nearby location.

The upcoming project will consist of a permanent indoor football practice facility, replacing the temporary practice bubble, as well as an athletic performance center located adjacent to it. The athletic center will house a weight room, locker room, offices, meeting rooms and more.

The practice facility will be located at the Sheakley Athletic Complex site and is scheduled to be completed by August 2024. The athletic center is set for a spring 2025 completion.
